Need help getting Ublox GPS going with Meshtastic/Pico

Ok I will be on the forum around 7-30 this Friday.
Thanks again Michael.

Hey @Michael99645

Rather than posting a temp link, you should be able to send a direct message by clicking on the persons icon

Dan, for some reason i don’t have that option (on any user)

Hi Dan
I too don’t appear to have that option.
I did enquire about it but I don’t recollect seeing any response.
The situation has been like that for a long time now.
The “Message” facility seems to have just disappeared.
Cheers Bob

Hi @Michael99645

Turns out that is an admin only feature, apologies for any confusion

Hi Dan
It used to work well. I have used it on a couple of occasions with no bother.
Then it just disappeared. No explanation. Nothing.
Was not impressed.
Cheers Bob

Hi Michael,
If I am NOT around at 7-30 as arranged it will because we are experiencing intermittent heavy rain in Eastern Victoria which may affect the satellite internet I am on. Probably will be OK but I thought I should warn you while things are working. If private messaging was available I would give you my phone number but it seems it is not.
Ian

Yep, my scheduled has move around an I can do it earlier at 5 if things are working ?
I will keep an eye out and we see how it goes.

Its working at the moment but a while ago it was not. Will have to wait and see.

Yep, i can see the cloud coming in, its trying to push south, but the mountains might hold it their.

So I can prepare, would it be wise to run flash_nuke.uf2 before trying your modified firmware?

Maybe, I did
I forgot to ask, excatly what version is it?
Pico, PicoW, Pico2, Pico2W
I have the original pico and tested on that, it should be the same changes for others, I tweaked a config for the Pico 2, but cant test.

Original Pico. Not wireless. Core seem to recommend sticking with the original.
I have zoom on a laptop on my workbench (ie dining room table) but I have only used it once before a long time ago so not that familiar with it. Do you send me an invite or what?

Yep, I will send you a link. Open the link in your browser and it should just run from there (I think their is still a web version)
We dont really need video as such, but screen shares are very handy.

All working here.

Ian, with that test firmware these are my screen shots
Last “tab/screen” when GPS is ok and working.
So a valid Altitude and location data.

2nd last screen
No error about the gps and the 7 Satellites icon

Then when I booted and no gps was connected.
that last screen should showed a “No GPS” message

And the same for the 2nd last screen.

I just did a re flash to triple check.

Have sent you a few emails. Massive progress but a couple of puzzles. I notice your time appears to be local time.

Well this is great progress but not without some new mysteries.
I have 3 nodes. The one with your modified firmware has the GPS working and reporting correct position and altitude. However the time is Greenwich time.
The second one has no GPS and the latest official firmware. It also shows Greenwich time.
The third node has no GPS and the previous version of the official firmware. It shows local time.
I can see no way of setting time offsets or anything similar, so I wonder if the latest official firmware has a bug???

For the time zone try this
From the app/web app.
Config
→ Device
Scroll down to POSIX Timezone

AEST-10AEDT,M10.1.0,M4.1.0/3

That should be Australia East Standard Time adjustment with Daylight savings and the 1 Sunday of 10th (Oct) and End on 1st Sunday 4th Apr.

Glad to hear the GPS is working now with the custom firmware compile.

Oh of course! The ones I have reflashed I forgot to set the POSIX timezone.
THanks Michael.
