Is it safe to assume that the Raspberry Pi Active Cooler fits inside this case?

Excellent idea. Similar to something I am building with the same Waveshare HDMI adaptor. I am using wood to let the WiFi work without interference from a metal enclosure.

The case description says it is high enough for a hat. That could be, I assume, an active cooler then the AI hat or the NVMe hat.The exact height is not specified.

The problem is the airflow. With anything above the active cooler, there is no useful air flow in a box like that. Perhaps not use a hat, just the active cooler. Is there room for a hat and a top fan? Could the active cooler fan be mounted at the back to blow across the Pi 5 and hat?

I would use the M.2 variation with the active cooler and no hat. The fan would then blow upwards toward the vent hole.

Are the mount brackets removable? They appear to be screwed on.

The 5 volt back connector looks odd. What are the requirements and limitations? I presume it is something like the 5 volt 6 amp from the official Pi 5 power supply but without PD.

Hi Peter,

The NMVe mounts to the side of the Pi’s board, via USB ports, leaving the top of the Pi uncovered. The lid has a round fan-like vent and so that looks like the intent - I just couldn’t find anything referring to which fans will fit.

One photo shows the mount brackets as separate pieces, so you should be OK there.

The problem of WiFi inside a Faraday Cage is one I plan to avoid with Ethernet. Since I’m not a wood worker, I had considered a ninja case ([Pibow Coupe 5 - Ninja Case for Raspberry Pi 5 with Active Cooler Compatibility | Buy in Australia | PIM677 | Core Electronics](https://core-electronics.com.au/pibow-coupe-5-ninja-case-for-raspberry-pi-5-with-active-cooler-compatibility.html)) with a Pimoroni NVMe base ([NVMe Base for Raspberry Pi 5 – NVMe Base | Buy in Australia | PIM699 | Core Electronics](https://core-electronics.com.au/nvme-base-for-raspberry-pi-5-nvme-base.html)) and a few stand offs / posts if needed to space it out. I may still go back to that idea.

good luck.

I have that NVMe base with a different brand on it. The PCIe flat cable blocks WiFi in one direction.

The power is through two pins pushed against the bottom of GPIO pins. I plan to lay the NVMe adaptor
out to the side and add a couple of wires for power.

Currently I prototype using a cork floor tile and mapping pins. When everything is ready, I have a
woodworker ready to teach me how to cut wood in a straight line. I know how to drill holes and have
packs of M2 and M2.5 bolts, spacers, nuts.

Hi David,

There’s room in this case for a range of HATs so the active cooler will fit just fine.

Given this doesn’t actually come with a Pi5, and even though it’s basically a bag of parts, I’m not sure it really belongs in the Kits category. Seems it’s just a case, like the Argon. 🤔

Anyway, it looks like the external screw terminal power connector is provided. How are people going about connecting PSU wires in? Cutting the connector off an official PSU seems kind of destructive and potentially unreliable.

Hi @dThirteen

My understanding of the screw terminals on the rear of the case is that they would be used in a more industrial application, powered by something similar to [Mean Well - 130W 5VDC Switchmode Power Supply](https://core-electronics.com.au/130w-5vdc-switchmode-power-supply.html).

Just wondering if the Pi5 active cooling [Raspberry Pi 5 Active Cooler | Buy in Australia | CE09791 | Core Electronics](https://core-electronics.com.au/raspberry-pi-5-active-cooler.html)
fits inside the all-in-one-M.2 case: [Pi 5 All-in-one Mini Computer Kit (M.2) | Buy in Australia | WS-27833 | Core Electronics](https://core-electronics.com.au/pi-5-all-in-one-mini-computer-kit-m2.html)
And does the cooling kit come with thermal paste?

Hey @Brian165424,

Welcome to the forum!

The Raspberry Pi 5 Active Cooler doesn’t use thermal paste, it comes with pre-applied thermal pads on the heatsink, so no additional thermal compound is needed. Just peel the protective film and mount it onto the Pi.

As for fitment inside the Pi 5 All-in-One Mini Computer Kit (M.2), yes, the Active Cooler does fit within the enclosure. However, since the case is fully enclosed, it’s worth being mindful of airflow. While the cooler will physically install without issues, internal heat buildup may be a concern under sustained loads. Some users have found that airflow can be improved by adjusting the fan orientation or modifying the enclosure slightly to add ventilation.

What voltage can be fed into the green DC connector? 12V 24V 36V?

Hey there, @vk5cp, and welcome to the forum, glad to have you here.

It’s a good question, since it’s not listed on the product page, but it is labelled on the PCB: 5V and Gnd. I’d treat it as an alternate way to feed the Pi directly from a regulated 5 V supply, much like the rear-panel wiring option @Dan mentioned earlier.
