Hi Les
The short answer is you don’t.
The connectors are different. The cable has a SMA connector and the antenna cable is TNC.
The reader I believe has provision to fit a UFL connector.
If this is so you will need a cable with UFL on one end and TNC on the other.
Cheers Bob
Or an SMA to TNC adaptor.

While we don’t currently stock any adapters, [this SMA to TNC cable should do the trick](https://core-electronics.com.au/catalog/product/view/id/54520?11283682).

Hi Jack
No it won’t. If you intend to have this cable connecting to the one in the original post you will have 2 SMA male connector s together. Best of luck with that.
The way out here would be to fit an SMA female to Les’ board. Then use this cable.
Note the male SMA connector on cable

is a reversed version (RP-SMA). That is you have a male pin and male thread.
Cheers Bob

Hi Les,

Welcome to the forum!!

From [the guide for the product](https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/simultaneous-rfid-tag-reader-hookup-guide/using-an-external-antenna) the suggested parts are:

Thats if you are connected it to this antenna:

Hi Liam
Had a closer look. I see where you are going now. This would be doable if you used the 2 cables. This should get from UFL to TNC but you finish up with a lot of cable and maybe the extra connectors and long cable may defeat the purpose as there might not be enough radiated power available to operate the RFID system.
Cheers Bob
PS The extra cable would be avoided if Les fitted a RP-SMA connector of the right sex to his board instead of the UFL connector. He has to fit a connector anyway so why not.

Hi, I am using your Clipper 4G LTE breakout board for a project, but space constraints mean I needed to use one of your flexible stick-on style 4G antennas for it, but those antennas end in a ufl connector, and the clipper 4G board has a SMA antenna connector on it, so I literally had to saw off and remove the sma connector and very carefully solder a tiny ufl surface mount connector to it instead so I could clip my ulf antenna onto it. It works fine but it was a delicate messy solution. I would like to find an adaptor cable that can screw into the clipper board’s SMA antenna connection and then the other end of it ends in a ufl socket that I can clip a ufl antenna connector onto… but I am confused about the male/female ends available on your adaptor converters, it’s not clear if it will actually let me clip one of your ufl antennas onto the adaptor and screw the other end into the clipper’s sma connector or if the male/female is all the wrong way in your adaptors and won’t suit my needs?

Thanks!

Chris

Hi Chris
I think these types (SMA etc) of connectors have reverse configurations . By that I mean say the panel mount SMA with a jam nut would normally have a female socket. The reverse of this is designated RF-SMA would have the same threaded connector/mount arrangement but with a male pin.

If you get a web site that lists all of these connectors you can finish up with a lot of configurations with a pretty much guarantee that you can find the one you want. I have not got a link to such a site on hand so you will just have o search.
Cheers Bob

Hey there, @Chris236191, the clean fix is an adapter lead, but I wouldn’t guess the board-side connector from the name alone because SMA and RP-SMA are easy to mix up.

 ![image](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex028/uploads/core_electronics/original/2X/f/fd4e70cf312b207a3ff0b6bfaff686d19d5854d5.jpeg)

If you could let us know which of the above most closely matches your board, I should be able to point you to a good adapter.

Thanks for stepping in. From your comparison options, the board for sure has SMA Female on it. Thanks!

I did manage to remove this female SMA with great difficulty and delicately solder a ufl instead which by a miracle works well but not a solution I want to ever try and repeat I think haha.
