# Using Batteries to get 5V and 18V at the same time

Hi.

What is stopping me from doing something like this

Where a 9V battery goes to both a voltage regulator to get 5V and separately is connected in series with a second 9V battery to get 18V.

I’ve learned the hard way that things that seem obvious and simple to me are never that.  
Keen to keep my studio an explosion free environment.

Hi Pix.  
Nothing. As long as the 9V batteries are capable of supplying the current you need.  
The one that is supplying 5V as well will go flat first though and you will have to keep an eye on that.
