Just wondering if my equipment list is corrcet for making a wifi router?

Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board for Raspberry Pi CM4 with 4GB RAM/ 32GB eMMC
Aluminum Alloy CNC Passive Cooling Cover Case for Raspberry Pi CM4 Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board
I have a power adapter for Raspberry Pi 4
I’ll need an antenna.
Couldn’t find one

This is what I’d normally recommend:

> **[Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 Antenna Kit](https://core-electronics.com.au/raspberry-pi-compute-module-4-antenna-kit.html)**
>
> The Compute Module 4 Antenna Kit is certified for use with Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4

But it’s out of stock alongside a lot of other Pi accessories in the shortage.

When searching for a replacement, I found that the connector on the CM4 board is MHF-1, which is apparently compatible with the u.FL connector featuring on our other antennas, such as the parts below:

> **[RP-SMA to U.FL Cable - 150mm](https://core-electronics.com.au/rp-sma-to-u-fl-cable-150mm.html)**
>
> This RP-SMA to U.FL Cable is commonly used to attach WiFi, Bluetooth, or nRFxxx based devices to a 2.4GHz antenna. What makes this unassuming cable special...

> **[2.4GHz Duck Antenna RP-SMA - Large](https://core-electronics.com.au/2-4ghz-duck-antenna-rp-sma-large.html)**
>
> Need range? 2.4GHz Large Duck Antenna 5dBi with Reverse Polarized - SMA RF connector. Perfect for prototyping with our RF ICs. 50 ohm impedance.

Keep in mind, though that this antenna will likely only work well in the 2.4GHz band, which generally has more range but less throughput than the 5GHz band used in WiFi these days.

Perhaps you could look at stand-alone access points like those from Unifi? They tend to be fairly affordable for the performance they offer. Not nearly as cool as getting your Pi to act as one, but maybe a bit more practical.

Let us know if you need any more help picking parts.
