I’m an Electrical Engineer (Power and Machines) but have been working in IT for a several decades - h/w, s/w and database management. I’m currently trying to build a RS485 bridge over RF to connect a remote (200mtrs) Eastron energy meter to a solar inverter in one of the farm sheds. I also want to attach a Modbus sniffer- hopefully with a Raspi - to monitor all the data being requested by the inverter. This area of tech is all new to me. I am competent with Linux/Unix and ethernet (even trained on IBM Token Ring!) but have no experience with RS485/Modbus so it’s a big learning curve!
