Carvera Applications

Hi - I currently 3d Print a product I created called Bolt Bell. I would like to transition to a more durable manufacturing process and the Carvera air/not air grabbed my interest. How may I be able to see if these products can assist? I have multiple 3d files available of different manufacturing versions for trial.

I’d add small custom enclosures and workshop tools to the list as well. Having a machine that can handle milling, PCB work, and engraving in one setup opens up a lot of possibilities for prototyping projects.

A machine like the Carvera Air (and the non-Air Carvera) can be useful. But only if your part geometry and production goals actually align with small-scale CNC capabilities rather than just additive prototyping. CNC machining converts CAD into toolpath-controlled subtractive manufacturing. It achieves repeatable tolerances of about plus minus 0.025 mm. It also provides higher strength than typical FDM printed parts due to solid stock material. CNC is best used when the geometry is machinable. It is also best when functional durability is the main requirement.
It is not ideal when internal geometric complexity dominates the design. For your Bolt Bell transition, apply Design for Manufacturing early. Tool access is a primary constraint.
Fillet sizes and radii must match cutter limitations. Setup count has a major impact on cost, often more than the machine itself. CNC is most effective as redesign-for-strength manufacturing.
