PCIe To M.2 Adapter With PoE For Raspberry Pi 5 (WS-28411) Installation

I have just taken delivery of my Pi5. The order also included an active cooler and a PoE M.2 HAT+

I have quicly discovered that you cannot have the active cooler installed, as the HAT is unable to be installed above the active cooler.

Any suggestions ?

I would have thought that if this is a known issue, then the order should have been queried at time of purchase.

Hi @Andrew302958 and welcome to the forum, we are happy to have you here.

You are correct, the active cooler and the PoE M.2 HAT+ are incompatible. The Active Cooler takes up too much space on the Pi5 to accept the HAT without extra long headers.

Thanks for the reply.

A little annoying - as I would have changed my order if I had known that.

I guess I now have a spare active cooler.

If you really want maximum cooling (say, heavy M.2 + PoE workloads), you can skip the Active Cooler and instead use a third-party case with a larger external fan, or mount a blower fan that pulls air across both the Pi and the HAT. Some community cases already exist for this.

It’s always good to have a spare, just in case, but I’m sorry this has happened.

I’m going to go ahead and update the page though to make it more explicit for the next customer.

The following product works with an active cooler. I have one on a Pi 5.
I wanted POE as well as an M.2 full length adaptor. Never had a problem with any Geekworm products.

Thanks for the heads up on this Geekworm option. I like it !!!

Not being restricted to the smaller form factor SSDs is a key feature for me.
