Raspberry Pi weather, soil moisture monitoring

I’m a horticultural educator and consultant and would be interested in setting up a weather station and soil moisture sensors (to ultimately control irrigation) using a Raspberry pi kit. My Technical College has also set up a LoRaWan in our city that I’d like to connect to, using external moisture sensors at the plant nursery in my workplace.
Can you advise the components I may need?
Complete newcomer to Raspberry pi but quick learner.
Or do I need to be looking at Arduino?

Hi Mike,

Sounds like a great project on the bake! Given what you have described, is there any reason that jumps out against using something like the LoPy4 (that has native LoRaWAN support, and runs on MicroPython)?
