SMD Markings

Does anyone have a good SMD marking database ?
If public, would be great to get the link, if not, can you see if you can find these two devices.

  1. J2WF - Should be “ME6217C33M5G”
  2. J2RF

Both are 3.3 Voltage regulators, LDO i suspect.
I think the form factor of both is : SOT-23-5

What I am trying to find out is the current rating of the J2RF, the J2WF should be 800mA, but i suspect the J2RF is much lower.

I have some boards. Some from Core that work as expected, some cheap clones but with the supplied regulator, very easy to get a brownout and rebooting,
If I supply 3.3V direct to the board from a good source, it works fine; So i suspect they swapped out the 800mA with a smaller one, so while I am going to replace the regulators with what’s needed and should be there, I was keen to know what they put in there.

Note that many of these markings are unique to a particular run of custom components and do not have any accessible documentation. While it is correct that custom components are probably identical to some known type (other than, perhaps, testing protocol or packaging) the customer will often specify that the details are not disclosed. An unknown number of entries in these databases are based on similarity of usage and package outline, and any other information is guesswork.

Jeff makes a great point—component markings can be tricky to decode due to testing protocols, packaging variations, and minor design tweaks, making exact identification difficult. It’s almost like reading tea leaves!

I’ve found that having a set of SOT23 to DIP or something like this SMT breakout PCB set on hand is really useful for figuring out the characteristics of unknown SMD components. They’re also great for bringing SMD parts onto the breadboard for easier testing.

Thanks everyone. I was just hoping some database somewhere would have a list of comports with their marking. Im 100% sure what should be their, just the clone device cant send enough power (3 for 3 so far). yet all work perfect when I inject the 3.3V direct. I was more interested in the specs of the clone part to see if it was even close for what it should have been.

I will see how they go when I swap of with a know regulator as I suspect it will just work, like the original board:)

The site I referenced suggests it’s a 150mA device, which would confirm your suspicions.
