ultra wideband - trilateration

Hello,

I have a technical question for tracking with ultra wideband;

stemming for this video; https://youtu.be/ziLU9w88G3I

If the three anchors are not set up in the traditional triangular way, but instead are lined up as shown in the picture, will the system still be able to determine both DIRECTION(Location) and distance for the single tag ~25 meters away?

The core of my question is will trilateration still work?

I have a very specific use case. Thank you so much!image0.jpeg

Hey @Isaiah308908, welcome to the forums!

The image didn’t seem to upload correctly, but if you are asking if three base stations lined up on a wall will work, the answer is both yes and no.

Excuse the crude drawing, but in the image below, I have 3 stations on a wall. In this setup, there are 2 potential locations where all the distance measurements (the circles) match up. You need a base station somewhere else (not on the wall) to determine which one is the real one.

However, in this setup we also probably know which is the real one and which one is not (one is going to be in the next room over, and the other is in the room we are in).

It is possible to modify the code to eliminate the fake one, but you will need to find a way to write that code. An LLM like ChatGPT or Claude might be able to help you here.

Cheers!
