240 volt motor

I have a 240 volt motor. It had bearing seize and caused the fuse in the electronic control box to blow. New bearings and new fuse and when it was switched on it blew the RCD breaker. Pulled it apart and discovered a burnt winding in it.
This motor is variable speed and drives an air conditioner fan. Similar to lots of old washing machine motors.
Is it possible to cut the one burnt winding out completely and insulate the ends and still have a safe running motor. Christmas so nothing is open to get a replacement

Hi Rodney
Wouldn’t do it myself.

Hey @Rodney101660,

It would be possible to remove the burnt-out winding and have a safe running motor but it’s not particularly likely that this wouldn’t cause other issues to pop up now that a winding is missing from the motor.

Removing a winding is likely to cause weird vibrations or overheating of other components. Removing this will also change the electrical characteristics of the whole system so the motor may not work at all with this removed or cause another component to fail under the new conditions.

I would leave this one to a professional, especially considering 240V wiring can be especially dangerous.

Hope this helps!
