Hi, Im building a project that requires a 8"-12" circular LCD screen. Has anyone seen one? Hexagonal or square 1:1 would also do. Needs to be small but stillbright. Any help would be great.
Hi Rhys,
Welcome to the forum! Glad to see you’ve put a post through.
A bit more detail on what you are putting together is a great way for your fellow makers here to give you better direction off the bat.
Looking forward to seeing this progress
I’m gonna guess a smart wall clock
Classic
I’m building a peppers ghost. So I need a bright circular screen. 1000 nits or similar. 8-12” diameter. I have found a few but they are either too small at 4” or or too large at 20”
Is there a reason for specifying LCD? If you need it to be bright, LED would be better than LCD. What shape is required? You have mentioned circular, square or hex, but is this a solid shape or an outline (eg, ring)? Is it colour or mono, and are you planning to animate it or will it be static? If it’s an outline then a string of leds would be easy to fabricate. If it’s solid you could use a panel and only illuminate the lights you need.
I’m very interested!!

Hi @RHYS90437 - this sounds rad
If brightness is negotiable, what about a raspberry pi display?
Else I’m afraid to get that brightness you may need to source a small rectangular TV, or even peel a display and add your own higher-powered backlighting. DIY Perks might give you some good inspiration here
DIY Perks has busted out some wildly impressive stuff. I’ve Been Matt is actually a bit of a trailblazer here and there.
I remember being blown away by all the angles he covered with his artificial sunlight; it seems as if he left nothing out, and I’m super curious how convincing it would seem in person…
Whoah, they come in knobs!
Hm, it’s gonna feel weird when I come across one of those and the display maintains its orientation when I turn it.
@RHYS90437 did you find what you were looking for?
