How to build a Volumio Dac on a Pi 4 Model B

Hey there, @Eandall316139, and welcome to the forum.

You should be able to get by with the below, provided you’re ok with using the audio jack or HDMI to connect to the speakers, or you’re just using it for streaming:

  • A Raspberry Pi Model (I’d recommend something in the RPi4 range like Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 4GB, but it looks like some people have gotten it working with the Pi 3.
  • A good sized SD Card or USB Device. If you’re confident mounting and linking directories in Linux then an external Hard Drive or USB will be fine, but to simplify things it’s often easier to have everything on the one drive.
  • Raspberry Pi 4 Power Supply (Official) - USB-C 5.1V 15.3W (White)
  • a Pi 4 case if you want it enclosed

If you want it to play audio with some finesse, add either a Raspberry Pi DAC+ or Raspberry Pi DAC Pro.
