I have the PCIe to M.2 with PoE hat, it’s been working great for the last month running my pi5 on PoE. Today I installed a Transcend 410S SSD, though it doesn’t seem to work as i’m getting a link down response on the hat PCIe. I tried updating my pi to the latest EEPROM and kernel, reseating the SSD, reseating the ribbon cable and even tried using a WD Blue SN580 without it being recognised. Is there something I’m missing? do I have a hardware fault on the hat?
I had an issue with the PCIe to Pi 5 small ribbon cable. It had become slightly misaligned when I was installing something else and mounting the whole thing in a box. Very hard to see as it all looked good. Pulled the cable out and reseated it in Pi 5 and PCIe board, taking care to ensure it was correctly in, worked again.
Might not be your problem.
The other thing to check is that the Transcend 410S SSD is compatible with the PCIe board and Pi 5.
Cheers
Jim
If your hat is PoE, check the power budget. NVMe SSDs can draw 3–7W, and PoE may not supply enough. If the SSD tries to spin up and the hat can’t supply it, it may fail to enumerate.
Hey @Tairal300124 and welcome to the forums, glad to have you here,
Would you be able to upload some photos of your setup? That will give us a much better idea of what is going on. I’m thinking it will probably be the ribbon cable but an image of the SSD in the PoE hat would be very useful for solving this.
