I have just shared a new project: “The Skeg Flexer - A Surfboard Fin Test Jig”
This project started because I was laid up, unable to surf. It was something I’d been wanting to do for a long time - I wanted to see if I could get a deeper understanding of my surfboard fin collection and why some ‘feel’ better.

Hey @David161541,
Welcome back to the forum!
Really loving this build, such a good idea. I just picked up a new board myself, and when it comes to choosing fins, it’s usually a mix of guessing based on specs, brand, or whatever looks about right. There’s not much solid info out there on how stiff or flexy a fin actually is until you’re already out in the water. Having something like this to test flex properly takes a lot of the guesswork out of it.
This setup could be great for mapping how different materials (like glass, carbon, or plastic) behave under load, and might even help link those measurements to how a board actually feels under your feet in different surf conditions.
Hope you’re back out in the water soon!
Thankyou Ryan! I had a really fun time doing this, and I am stoked with getting some numbers for my fin sets! Had a paddle this morning, rain and wind with a few turns mixed in…. and a grin!
Oh, and thanks for the Core team for making this post so awesomly neat and tidy!
may your waves be good waves!
