Waveshare ESP32 S3 voltage range for power?

I’m working on a project with a friend, using the Waveshare ESP32-S3 Pico board.
The description mentions it has a “High efficiency DC-DC buck-boost chip”, but I can’t actually find the allowed voltages to use to power it.

Some other ESP32 boards have allowed voltages as high as 8-9V, or as low as 3.5V. I was hoping this Waveshare board was the same, but now I’m not sure.

Can anyone confirm the accepted voltage range for powering it?

Welcome to the forum Toby!

From the data sheet for the regulator it quotes a 5.5V max, which is the same as the Pico.

Thanks for the quick response!
A pity it doesn’t go higher, but it’s OK.

Do you know the lower end of the range?

Hi @Toby469,

Looking at the datasheet for the MP28164 power IC it looks like the VSYS for the board is 1.2V to 5.5V Input Work Range with a startup voltage of 1.8V. I’d recommend looking through yourself to see what the limitations of this chip are though.

Found this chip on the Schematic for the ESP32-S3-Pico.

Hope this helps with your project.
