Abc iview error messages

I am using a Pi 4B to stream free-to-air programs to a non-smart tv using Firefox. YouTube and SBS on demand have no issues, but ABC i-view comes up with an error (see photo of screen). I have addressed the probable causes (other photo) with no success.

I have tried both Firefox and Chromium, Trixie and Bookworm with no success. It is not an issue on my daily driver Linux Mint box. I note in the forum that this was an issue in 2022.

I have messaged the ABC in the hope that they may be able to provide a solution.

I’m hoping, in the meantime someone may have found a resolution.

Hi @Alan255738,

I’ve not had this error on iView specifically, but I’ve had it happen before when trying to watch Binge on Ubuntu in 2020. Long story short is that the DRM module that a lot of companies use is designed principally for Windows and Mac. While the bigger companies have big enough tech teams to make sure everything works with a variety of OSes, I’m not surprised that some of the smaller Aussie Companies don’t.

There are ways to disable DRM in these situations. They’re very much skirting on the line of violating ToS and illegality, so we can neither link them here or encourage you to use them. But they’re out there.

Thanks Jane. I think I’ve found a workaround by using Libre elec. Currently investigating
Cheers

Hi Alan
I don’t know if this applies to you but might help.

I have a smart TV in one room and a Fetch box in another. On occasion both use streaming services. My internet connection is via a VPN. Now a couple of these services like 9Now and ABC’s IVIEW seem to have some sort of geographic filtering and pretty much refuse to look at my VPN, wherever that may be at the moment.

My VPN has the option to allow selected sites to bypass the VPN and connect directly to the internet. This is what I have had to do to allow the viewing of both these services.

Could something similar be your problem.
They also want re validation from time to time like about half an hour ago with 9Now. Easy enough, just connect to a web site and enter the number displayed on the TV screen. Back in business.
Cheers Bob
