Bluetooth streaming from MCU

If I wanted to stream some audio via BLE to my Bluetooth headphones, what chips or micro controllers should I be considering? Do they make dedicated hardware for this?

Hey Pix,

This is entirely possible with an ESP32 using the ESP-A2DP Library. There are not a great deal of devices that we carry that can be added onto an Arduino or the like that are capable of the protocol needed for BT headphones, but the ESP32 has compatibility to use that protocol with that library. So if you want to add to another device that doesn’t have compatibility, maybe an I2S bridge would work to stream into the ESP32 to achieve this, as UART may be a bit slow Baud to achieve music streaming.

I have had a read. I guess I need some flash memory to store the music on and then read and dispatch by the ESP32. Worth a try. :slight_smile:

There probably isn’t an ESP32 in my phone or laptop. Surely someone is making dedicated hardware for this. I’ll keep searching and report back. :slight_smile:

Hey Pix,

Generally, the phone chipsets are often Qualcomm or Broadcom chips for the older model phones, though modern phones have an integrated control on the SOC itself, meaning there isn’t an external chipset used as control is handled on the same silicon as the “CPU“ of the device.

Most PC’s have external chipsets though and are likely your best bet to look into, though the software side of things may be the most difficult hurdle there, as the Realtek RTL series chips are super common and widely supported, but only for PC’s as far as I am aware.

Ahh bummer. Looks like my xiao esp32s3 won’t work because only esp32 vanilla is supported.

CE staff what’s the smallest board with an esp32 vanilla chip on it I can buy from you?
