Hi Tony,
Thanks for sending through some photos of your machine. It’s difficult to say with any level of confidence what kind of distance sensor that machine is using without some more information which isn’t going to be easy if nothing has markings or specs on it.
From a bit of Google investigating it seems like this lot in the US likely designed that machine so you might be able to get some insight from the manufacturer directly if you shoot them an email.
