Dual Band WiFi on Raspberry Pi Boards and Compute Modules

Hey Makers!

Had a few questions about this recently, so thought Iโ€™d share a post on it for everyone to be able to see :smile: Just a heads up about dual-band support for the Raspberry Pis (i.e. 2.4GHz and 5GHz network compatibility)

The only boards that provide 5GHz support are at this time are the:

  1. Raspberry Pi 4 B (all variants)

  2. Raspberry Pi 3 A | B + (note the +)

  3. Compute Module 4 Wireless

None of the Zeros including the Zero 2W, or older models or Pi before and including the Pi 3 B, nor the CM3 (which donโ€™t have wireless cards) support dual band WiFi natively, any that have wireless capabilities are limited to channels in the ~2.4GHz band. You may be able to use a USB adaptor with the appropriate drivers for your device and OS to get around this such as this one, but be sure to check compatibility first:
