GPi Case - failed silion pad ~1 year old

Hi gang,

I bought a Retroflag GPi Case just over a year ago and the silicon pad has just failed under the ‘a’ button (the worst possible place).

You can see similar complaints here:

I’ve contacted Retroflag to see if they have spare silicon pads. In the meantime, I’ve rotated the pad around 180 degrees so at least games that only use the bottom two buttons are playable.

Do you have any recommendations?

Cheers,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Seems others have had luck with retroflag support, so I’m expecting good things there:

However, in the meantime, others have claimed success from gluing the two parts together (although I like your workaround more)

Keen to see what they have to say!

Retroflag have indeed offered to send a replacement for 5 USD. I’ll report back here with how it goes.

Hi Daniel,

Just came across this product that might get you fixed up: CircuitWorks Rubber Keypad Repair Kit Australia

Hi @Liam120347,

Thanks for the tip. That product looks like it’s intended for the carbon contacts themselves. Do you know if it help with the torn silicone part (the contacts on my pad are fine)?

The replacement pads arrived from Retroflag. That certainly seems like the route to take for anyone else finding themselves in the same position.

Hi Daniel,

Great news, thanks for following up!

And just to follow up, the product Liam recommended is more for the repair of the carbon pads, but you could probably use any flexible silicone compatible glue to get by in the short term. A little bit RTV-silicone gasket goo (available from any automotive store) applied carefully with a needle or toothpick would probably work ok as a quick fix.
