Using the crimping tools and connectors available from Core Electronics and other providers, and especially using them correctly will result is reliable connections. I have made many with my projects.
The odd times a crimp fails for me is usually due to not crimping the insulation as well as the wire. The close ups in this article show how it can be done successfully.
Buying a quality crimp tool (expensive) and a good magnifying head set is a must.
