M3 brass inserts

What should the diameter of the hole in the plastic be please?

Hi Geoff
A little more detail about exactly which brass inserts would be helpful.
The diameter of the hole for different materials should be available in the specs for the product.

Hi Bob. I’m not sure what happened with the reply email. I’m using Thunderbird which has worked perfectly for donkey’s years.
SKU: ADA4255 is the item I am looking at. I cannot see the specs.

Hi Geoff

Delightfully vague aren’t they. You can’t see the specs because there doesn’t seem to be any.
Unfortunately happens a lot from some of these suppliers. Personally I tend not to purchase if I can’t get the info I need to use the product. Or go to Element 14 where you will get this sort of info.

For what it is worth the ones Element 14 stock specify a 4mm hole for M3 inserts. They are probably the same. The only other way is get them and measure it.

Thanks Bob. I have ordered, along with Hakko iron and brass insertor, and will measure. Geoff

The core guys will probably measure them up when they’re back in. They’re usually pretty good at that sort of thing. Looks like an adafruit product, so I checked the adafruit forums and found these little nuggets of design knowledge for them:

Still does not excuse some of these suppliers. They are a bit thin on the ground when it comes down to detail when others can produce data sheets.
