I am looking to make this project as a beginner:
I’m reading that the Leonardo used could be replaced with a newer processor.
Do you have any recommendations for a processor that will fit the zumo robot tracks?

Hi Meg, Welcome to the forum 
Looking at that tutorial it seems like it’s designed for the Leonardo, so changing processors may get you more processing power, but you would need to double-check that both processors have the same pinout.
Sometimes different Arduino boards will use different pin numbers and need to be wired up differently.
