This board has a battery plug that is compatible with standard JST 2-pin batteries.
This category is probably the best place to have a look as all the batteries should be compatible as long as they are listed as 3.7v. You can choose a smaller or larger one based on your project requirements.

Suppose I wanted to work with this circular design. What stackable battery would be suitable? Something circular? Or something that fits within the dimensions?

The closest option in our range is the 120mAh 3.7V LiPo. At 28 × 13 × 5mm, it should fit neatly behind the board within its roughly 36.5mm circular footprint. I’m not aware of a suitable round cell that we stock.
I was looking up smart watch batteries for something comparable, hoping that they might have had some complicated coin cell battery the rest of us can’t get access to. But it seems that they’re using rectangular LiPos too, usually around 200–600mAh and none of ours quite fit the size range.
As far as I can see, if you wanting to make a circular device around a device this small your going to need to pad the case (maybe an extra inch in diameter which will get you past 50mm for batteries and only add another 0.5 inch on each side).

Well, this one they actually want you to open judging by the included screwdriver.
This one is powered via a 1.25mm pitch Molex cable. There’s not exactly much room inside, but you should be able to connect a very small lipo in there, provided you can get one with the right connector.
But as you can see there’s not exactly a slot for the battery either. With a little bit of double-sided tape you could probably affix the battery to the interior of the case.

I can also see double sided tape.
I don’t think I have the tools to figure out if any given battery would be safe inside the case or if it some component would be squishing it in a dangerous way.
Looks like industry doesn’t have too much for me here out of the box. No-ones fault.
I’ll think about this some more.
If anyone at core or on this forum has any good simple out of the box solutions I’m keen.

If you have to print up a case could you not make provision for a LiPo OUTSIDE this case but INSIDE the one you need to design. You would have to arrange for the wires to exit the device case to connect the battery but the one you linked seems to have provision for a cable to exit so might be UK.
Both of the devices referred to here seem to have battery charging facilities via the type C connector.
