I have Volumio on a Rp4. The music files are stored on two SanDisk Ultra Fit 512GB USB 3.2 Flash Drives, but Rp4 does read only one flash drive at a time. I use the official Rp 4 power supply. Is it possible that this power supply is not strong enough?
Hey there, @Lazlio250908,
That’s certainly a possibility, but let’s try and get a better idea of your setup before we worry about the PSU being insufficient.
Could you please tell me:
- Which ports are you using?
- Are both USB’s equally likely to not be read or is it happening to one more than the other?
- Does that affect change when USB Ports are switched.
In addition, could you please let me know the output of lsusb, lsblk, anddmesg | grep usb.
Hi Jane,
Thank you very much for your reply.
I am using the two blue (USB3 ports).
I cannot answer the other questions right now because I am away this week. Next weekend I’ll experiment a bit by switching the ports.
Unfortunately I have little technical knowledge. How can I figure out the output of lsusb, lsblk, anddmesg | grep usb?
No worries, @Laszlo250908, there’s no rush.
And don’t worry, that’s an easy test to perform, you just need to open the Terminal. If you’re using the Raspbian Gui, you can either select it from the Menu or else press ‘Ctrl + Alt + T’ to open an instance of the Shell. Then enter in each of those commands.
If you’re remote accessing your Pi, then just enter them directly into the SSH shell after login.
You should be able to copy and paste them here directly between two sets of ``` characters.
Hi,
it’s been quite a while since I played with Volumio but there’s a high chance that it’s probably Volumio that’s causing the problem. There has been some discussion about it eg
Use 2 USB sticks at the same time
regards
Peter
Hi Jane,
I have checked the 2 USB sticks. They are formatted as exFAT and when I switched them, Rp4 again read the one in the upper blue port.
However, I also realized that they had the same name. I renamed them, and that solved the problem. Now I can see all 1755 albums in MyMusic.
Thank you very much for your help and patience,
Laszlo
Thank you Peter, I renamed the 2 USB sticks and that solved the problem.
The official Raspberry Pi 4 power supply is probably not the problem, it is normally up to the job. More likely this is a restriction of the Pi’s USB handling or power distribution or of the flash drives themselves. Sometimes two large USB drives might create detection/mounting problems. You can try a powered USB hub, or verify that the system detects both drives correctly.
