Sponge enclosure case hdd 2.5"

Does the sponge for the enclosure case cause pressure damage to the flat cables of 2.5" HDDs? I have an Orico 25pw1 enclosure case + 2.5" Seagate ST500LM030 HDD. This enclosure case contains a sponge, I think it’s EVA, to stick to the lower central part of the case and it would be in direct contact with the flat cable of this HDD. When closing the top cover of the case, will the sponge cause pressure and long-term damage to the flat cable or not?

Hi @gamer87272298,

It depends.

If there is no movement between the foam and the cable I can’t see why it would damage it in the long term.

If there is movement I can see it potentially acting like sandpaper and slowly wearing it away.

But it is hard to say for certain as long-term testing is required to know a definitive answer.
