Stepper Motor Hat for Pi (Problems)

Hello, I just recently bought a stepper motor hat for my rpi 5. I am having an error where none of my motors are spinning even though i have followed exactly what is shown in the youtube video. I also do have 9v external power supply.

I am not sure if this is normal or not but whenever i run the code for either the stepper or the dc, the power light turns off and i hear a very high pitched buzz.

If anyone could help that would be awsome.

Thank you so much!

Hi Trafford
I think a bit more info would be good. For instance more detail re your stepper hat. Just what is the 9V supply and what is the current capability of that supply.

Sounds like the 9V battery or whatever is not up to it. Running out of grunt as the saying goes like not being able to supply the current the stepper requires.
Cheers Bob

Not all youtube videos work in all situations, it is full of stuff that is old and really does not work. Then there are some good helpful ones too.

As @Robert93820 said more information is needed, bit hard to provide advise when we don’t know what you have. In my experience Stepper motors can take a lot of current and setting up can be a pain if you get it wrong, but when they work they are great.

Cheers
Jim

A buzzing from the motor often indicates that the wiring to the motor is incorrect. You can’t assume that the wiring colour in the video is correct, even when your motor is the same - you must check the continuity to find the pairs.

Hi @Trafford287928

Welcome to the forum!

Are you able to post an image of your setup, as well as provide more information as to the hat that you’re using?
