However, I’ve found that curved medical tweezers are also very good for doing this, and about 1/3 the cost.
Agree. I’ve ripped the receptacle out of the board when pulling the connector off using just fingernails. It is important to apply zero compression force on the receptacle. Never use pliers of any type.
