Hey Guys,
I have purchased the Waveshare RS232 to Eth data collector. I have managed to get it working on a remote pc but am unable to view anything on the com port. The supplied software is called VirCom and i’m able to see the device but in device settings the drop down for a virtual serial says “Not Use”. I have tried the Virtual Serial Port Driver software they suggest but no love. Even ChatGPT is stumped. Any suggestions…Cheers.
VIrCom, thats a blast from the past; still in use by the sound of it.
these device normally have a few things to line up.

The RS232 port is selected on the device (if it can do more then just RS232). Nomrally this will be in the setup for the device. Setup all the normal comms settings, e.g. 8 Data Bits 1 start, 1 stop no parity etc as per your needs.
Note: This is for the comms from the realy world com port on the remote device to this unit.
-
On the unit setup to be either a client or server.
Client will attempt to connect to the remote PC running the software.
Server will wait for the remote PC server to connect to it.
3, In the PC Software create a virtual comm port ensure the correct matching details. e.g. if this device is a server, the PC will be a client and enter the IP address and port that this unit is set to listen on.
- Connect your software to the virtual com port like any other com port.
If all that sounds like what you have done, can you post some screen shots etc of all the settings pages.
