3 x 18650 Battery Holder with DC2.1 Power Jack (FIT0539)

This is a placeholder topic for “3 x 18650 Battery Holder with DC2.1 Power Jack” comments.

The 18650 lithium battery is a commonly used lithium battery in electronic products. It is often used in batteries of laptop computers and power banks. 18650, which…

I’m looking for a 12v battery pack to power some portable led light engines for a few hours. This 3x 18650 holder looks perfect. But do I instead need to wire in a BMS as well, rather than just using the output from the jack of this battery pack holder?

Thanks!

By the way, I’d charge them outside of this holder

Ok so reading some more I think I will need a BMS. My project is a light engine that will pull 32W at max power

This one looks ok?

Is it easy to integrate into the holder? Ie. the BMS needs to be connected at a few places, do I have easy access to solder new wires into the holder?

Thanks!

Hi Chris
If you already have the 18650 cells be aware that some of these with nipples can be up to 70mm long. Particularly the ones with under voltage shut down circuitry fitted.
You may have trouble fitting these into that holder. You are best with the flat end ones (no nipple) as stocked by Core SKU: CE04624 as these ARE 65mm long.

You might struggle a bit here. The cell quoted above is rated 2.6Ahr but that is at the 0.2C rate I believe which is noted at 540mA (22W at 12V, or 20W at 11.1V)

Thanks for that Bob. Yeah my cells are 68mm long… might be just a bit too long or reckon they’d squeeze in?

Hi Chris
You would have to try it. I have some cells with the protection fitted which I could not get in to a 2 cell holder with that 2.1mm plug fitted. I did manage to fit them into some single cell holders but having done that they are now useless for a 65mm cell.

As far as soldering extra wires for your BMS it should be doable but you need to be careful not to damage the plastic support bits.

Hi @Chris277715, Welcome to the Forums!!!

It might be a tight squeeze for the 68mm batteries.
These holders should be able to accommodate a larger battery. They might be tight and require the tabs to be flattened a little to get them in comfortably.

Hi Aaron
I think those are pretty much the same dimensions
