4G Hat for Pi Zero, will it work with the new Pi Zero 2?

Hi,

Just want to confirm if this will work with the new Pi Zero 2 as there is a pogo pin design on the PCB to interface with the standard Pi Zero.

Thanks heaps.

Hi Samuil,

I’m glad you asked, so far the only thing we have found for Pi Zero that isn’t compatible with Pi Zero 2 are the slim acrylic cases as the CPU is so much larger and they are a very tight fit.
The SIM7600G-H 4G HAT is compatible because the relevant pads for the pogo pins are in the same spot, however, some of the copper pads have moved slightly between the two boards so there is no guarantee that every pogo pin based accessory will work with both.

Here is a size-by-side image so you can play spot the difference as well!

And just FYI, here’s how that one mounts. It goes on the underside!

Thanks so much for your help guys.

I had an additional question knowing this device uses pogo pins. There are also USB ports on the device which connect via pogo pins to the USB+/- conductor pads. However, the previous USB device I had (Zero4U) came with a ferrite ring to stop interference with USB transmission. I am a little worried about this happening with this 4G hat - do you know if I am mistaken and this will not be a problem? I really need the USB ports to be stable.

Hi Samuil,

There’s no indication from Waveshare that this is a problem with this board, so for now there’s no reason to expect it should be an issue.

I do know what you’re talking about though, UUGear described their troubleshooting on that issue when the Zero W was originally released here:

It’s worth noting the Zero4U was developed before the existence of the Zero W, so they couldn’t have tested it for WiFi related issues in development even if they wanted to. The Zero W has now been out for quite a while, so Waveshare definitely could have tested for WiFi issues during development - and I expect if it were an issue for their board during development they’ve fixed it in design, rather than needing a ferrite ring afterwards.

Sounds great thanks again Oliver!
