Hi, can anyone tell me what will plug into the GPIO socket on the Fan Hat? The holes seem too small for the 40 pin connector.

That HAT plugs straight onto a Pi’s 40-pin header just fine! (It may be overall bigger than you think!

Hi James, Yes I have the Hat you mentioned, I cant seem to be able to plug anything into the header socket. either a 40 pin strip that you normally solder to the Pi or a ribbon cable male plug.

If you space out your HAT correctly, you could definitely plug a male header into the top and bottom of your fan hat, I think. Forgive the crude drawing, but here’s what I mean:
Even if you don’t have standoffs, just pushing the Pi header in so that it only goes in about half way, or only in the “bottom header” should work.

EDIT: If you want to connect to a female IDC cable (or anything else female) something like this should do the trick:
