Assistance with LED Colour Accuracy and Brightness Control

Hi there,

I hope you’re doing well.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me.

Please find attached the models and the code I have been working on for your reference.

I have noticed an issue with the colour output when adjusting the brightness. When selecting purple, the colour appears closer to pink or red as the brightness increases. I have observed similar behaviour with orange and yellow. When the brightness is set to 100%, the colours seem to shift significantly towards red rather than displaying their intended colours.

I have also tried manually adjusting the RGB values, but this does not appear to resolve the issue. Additionally, when selecting white, the light appears more yellow than expected.

If achieving accurate colours is not feasible with the current setup, I would be happy to use a bright white light as an alternative, provided it produces a consistent and sufficiently bright output.

Could you please review the attached models and code to help identify the cause of these issues and recommend any necessary adjustments?

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards
Jayson

Hi @David87284, and welcome to the forum, glad to have you here.

Based on your description of the dullness of the colour, I’d first check the power source before making further RGB adjustments. Colours becoming redder as brightness increases is consistent with the supply voltage dropping under load: the blue and green channels can weaken relative to red, making purple look pink and white look yellow.

From our earlier phone call, I believe you were using the Kitronik ZIP Tile. That tile requires 3.5–5.3 V through its rear JST power connector, and it powers the controller from there. Could you share how you’re powering it, including the battery type or supply rating, and a photo of the connections?

For a quick comparison, could you please use the same violet setting shown in your screenshot but reduce the brightness to a low value, such as 10. Does the colour look closer to what you expect, then become redder as brightness increases? If you’re using batteries, repeating that test with fresh batteries would also help narrow it down.
