Hi I run a STEM centre at our school. I have previously purchased some buzzers with the intent of using them with batteries only but it seems the ones I bought require a microcontroller or similar in order to operate, from my research these are passive buzzers. I have had trouble finding options for active buzzers on the website, ones that can be run in projects with batteries wires and switches only. If you could point me in the right direction that would be great
What about something like this below?
bzzzzzzz
Hi Shane
I think most of Core offerings have to be driven with a square wave or something like that.
Jaycar seem to have a selection of buzzers with built in drive circuits. In other words they will âself buzzâ with the application of a DC voltage.
Search âBuzzerâ on the Jaycar page.
Cheers Bob
Thanks Bob
I thought I might have to go elsewhere, tried to avoid it since we have been using core electronics exclusively for a while now but I will look into it, thank
Hi, I had a look at that one just then, seems it has to be driven with a square wave like I think the other ones I am trying to use are, thanks for the help
Hi Shane,
It might be worth an email, I recall them stocking a similar buzzer to this:Piezo Buzzer | Buy in Australia | CE09240 | Core Electronics
But an active version, is that kind of what you are after?
Hi Liam
Thanks for your reply, yeah the active version is what I am after, I will get in contact with them
Ah I understand what you mean now by active and passive. Sorry I misunderstood.
If you want to keep the circuit as simple as possible, an active buzzer is definitely the way to go since it handles the frequency internally. But if you want to change the pitch or play a âmelody,â the passive one with a PWM signal from your microcontroller is much more fun.
Hello,
We actually imported an Active Buzzer in the last month or so. It would be better for a project that canât run with PWM.
Keep in mind, they are single-tone buzzers and so wonât be able to play anything requiring a change of pitch.
Cheers,
Blayden
Spot on. For anyone reading this later, if you just want a âbeepâ without the coding, look for âactiveâ or âself-drivingâ buzzers. It keeps the wiring simple so you can focus on the rest of the build!
