ePaper product tags for tracking expiry dates

Hi,

I’m not quite sure where this belongs (yet), however happy to be pointed in the right direction.

I’m looking to create some epaper/eink tags to track expiry dates on products around the house and in the fridge/pantry.

What would be the best starting point for a system that can handle this?

Welcome Scott.

Im not clear what you are trying to do here.
If you simply attach an eInk display to products, what is the advantage of that over just using a marker (that will be cheaper)?

When you say track, are you expecting some sort of notification that an item is about to expire and/or update the screen with a clear “out of date” sort of message ?

Im sure you have a great project idea, Im just missing it at the moment.

Hi @Scott295707

Welcome to the forum!

I would say the easiest way to get this project set up and running would be using Waveshare 2.13inch E-Paper Module for Raspberry Pi Pico 250x122 (Black/White) and Raspberry Pi Pico W for hardware.

For the software side of things I would setup Home Assistant and then run ESPHome on the Pico, from there you should be able to set the date of expiry in Home Assistant, and configure it either to display the days remaining for that specific product or the expiry date.
