LCD Button Shield V2

https://core-electronics.com.au/lcd-button-shield-v2.html
Is the shield I received faulty??
I have plugged it onto my wemos wifi mega board and tried the library code, it displays =? =? =? =? =? =<<<<0y<<<?=?=?<<<<
I did some checking with multimeter and found two pins J4-5 and J4-6 are shorted which is d4 and d5.
Is my shield faulty or should a multimeter see a circuit between those pins?

Thanks for any assistance.
Cheers

Hi Stu,

Unfortunately there is not a lot of documentation on this device. You can find an example code here:
https://github.com/SparkfunTechSupport/Additional-files/raw/master/DEV-13293/LCD_Button_Shield_V2_example_code.zip

I would first check your solder connections on the headers. Can you include a photo of the underside of the shield?

Hi Stephen,
There doesn’t seem to be any solder between pins, and there isn’t a circuit between the other data pins which is why I suspected a faulty shield.

Kind Regards
Stuart

Hi Stu,

The continuity between those pins doesn’t really mean anything to me without a diagram to go along with it. I can’t speak to what you should be reading there.

Check for continuity between the header pins and the relative pre-soldered connections on the board itself.

Hi Stephen,

Here is diagram I found https://s3.amazonaws.com/linksprite/Shields/16X2+LCD+Keypad+shield/1602+LCD+Shield+Sch.pdf

the connection between hedder pins and per soldered connectors are fine just that the two data lines D4 and D5 are shotred which would mess up the binary code sent to screen thus making it display rubbish.

Is thery any warrenty cover for items not working out of the box?

Kind Regards

Stuart

Hi Stu,

Sorry, user-soldered products (including headers, etc) are not eligible for return as there are factors beyond our control (such as ESD and excessive heat).
