This photodiode is made out of environment-friendly materials(no Cadmium and Lead) compared with the traditional CDS photoresistor. It can be used to generate a current when light hits the body of the diode. Depending on your project, this can be easier to work with than a photoresistor.

I cannot seem to find the data sheet for this product. can this photodiode detect wavelengths from 400nm to 920nm?

Welcome to the forum!!
I came across this datasheet with the specs for that one.
Its only 40% responsive at 400nm so it can although not as strong as the higher wavelengths.
