Pi 4B (or 5) with ALFA Networks HaLow HAT

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone at Core Electronics has given the HaLow HAT a go? I struggled to get the HaLow HAT to work with any version of O/S other than the pre-defined image on gitHub. I tried to install manually even with Buster / Bullseye and Bookworm but neither of these seem to work. I resorted to the image on Git, however my issue with that is it was created almost 2 years ago and therefore could have security holes (not to mention I am unable to validate what build level its at). I tried to find a contact point for Alfa Networks but haven’t been able too. Thoughts?

Best regards,

James.

Nobody here has got their hands on this device before - but it looks very interesting!
This might be one for the manufacturer to weigh in on I’m afraid. it might be best to get in touch with Alfa

Hi Michael, sorry for the delay in coming back to you. I did reach out to Alfa Networks who suggested they may look into it in the future (however I didn’t sense any immediate urgency from them).

That said - I have at least used their pre-supplied OS and have a couple of the Alfa Networks HaLow WiFi hats working. I created some UDP code and can push IoT or image data from unit A to unit B. I’m about to do a range test to see if I can get a kilometre of range (fingers crossed). I’ll let you know how I go.

Hi James,

Sounds Awesome! I’m glad you at least got something out of Alfa Networks. Definitely keep us updated on this project I’m excited to see how it goes.

Regards, Sam
