I have just shared a new project: “VisionSphere: Camera Motion Detection for Raspberry Pi”
A simple camera motion detection system for Raspberry Pi. Definitely written with Aussie’s in mind (although it could be modified to be used in other countries). The main motivation behind writing this was to monitor property and wildlife in a remot…

Hey @Harris72288, welcome to the forums!
That is an awesome project! I can’t imagine how stressful contacting the RFS about the fires while overseas would have been.
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the encouraging feedback! Yeah, it was surreal watching it all play out from overseas. I have a lot of people to thank for saving my cabin, esp the RFS on the day.
Just a small update for those interested; I have made numerous updates to this repo since this article was first published by Core Electronics. Including recent work to cater for changes in the BOM (Bureau of Meteorology) new website that was deployed yesterday. The weather integration code formerly relied on some BOM JSON observational endpoints that are part of their now deprecated website. So, instead (after I checked with the BOM), the weather integration in this application now uses public FTP (state based 72 hour historical) observational endpoints that the BOM provides. If you have existing cameras using weather windstop functionality, you will need to update your BOM ID’s for the new product codes accordingly after downloading this updated repo. I have also now included a “Weather Observations Map” which both displays the latest weather observations (using these BOM FTP endpoints) and also easily allows linking weather observations to existing cameras via a map interface. I have also made a few other minor fixes to this repo since this article was first published. Hope that all makes sense? Anyway, you can find my updated code base on my github repo referenced in the article above, which is; GitHub - harrishudson/VisionSphere: Camera Motion Detection for Raspberry Pi’s with focus on Australian residents.
Hi @Harris72288 ,
Thanks for the update! This is a super cool project, and it’s great to see you have been sticking with it to keep it updated for everyone.
Hopefully, this code change from BOM doesn’t impact too many active weather stations.
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I have done quite a few updates to this repo now - hopefully I haven’t introduced any major bugs.
