I hope you are doing well. Recently I was asked to develop a pilot solution for a large medical devices supplier to track the location and use of their good across hospitals. The solution will be based on RFID and IOT technology, but I lack the expertise.
Would you be able to consult us on potential options? We have the solution designed, we just lack the exact technology. We require:
- Short Range IOT Low Power RFID Scanners (<1m) with NB-IOT connectivity with long battery life, mounted on hospital equipment (1-2 for pilot, 100+ after pilot, 1000s for production). The RFID reader should be able to do UHF 900MHZ and be compliant to Australian regulations.
- RFID Tags and ways to manage them (10 for pilot, 1000s after pilot)
Hi @Tomas278381, Welcome to the forums!!!
Quite a big project here to take on! For a project like this, I would ask if you have looked into any of the commercial solutions that already exist. I know there are quite a few different inventory management companies around that have solutions already for these kinds of use cases. Zebra for example has quite a few inventory management systems including RFID solutions available.
If you are looking to design a whole system from the ground up I’d recommend looking at how commercial systems have been designed for inspiration. For example, Zebra hand-held scanners are at their core an Android phone with a scanner designed into the phone. It might be a smart idea to use Android phones as a base and design a case with the extra necessary components.
Hopefully, someone with more expertise in this area can weigh in with any other considerations we may have missed.
Best of luck!
Thank you Samuel, yes the ready made devices will make about 50% of our solution, but we need that low powered device that we attach to the equipment. That needs to be custom built I will talk to Zebra about handheld solution for our use case as well.
