How waterproof is this? If it is not what would be a good alternative?

Ideally IP69 if not IP68 (5m Submersion in Salt/Chlorinated Water)

Hi James,

I have a feeling this one isn’t IP rated with anything that would let it get close to water.
The only thing I can think of getting to IP69 would be a reed switch full enclosed (with your other electronics) and a magnet on a spring outside the enclosure

Yes that makes sense. I am intending to directly supply a small motor and some solenoids off this switch.

This guy: Magnetic Switch | Buy in Australia | SEN0387 | DFRobot | Core Electronics Looks like it could handle the water, however I am not encouraged by its current rating, which appears to be only 50mA, compared to the bare reed switch’s rating of 1.2A.

Would the core mag switch work or should I look elsewere for something?

Hi James,

You could look at using that switch to trigger a relay or mosfet to get around the limited current capacity that the switch has.
