Hi Im new here.
I recently purchased the Sparkfun board & display. Im having an issue getting anything to display. The board’s power light is active but no display. Im wondering if its my soldering or these boards
Any comments would be welcome

Looks like you’ve picked your parts correctly, but I agree with @Robert93820 in that your solder joints could do with a closer look.
Have you tried communicating with the board over serial as shown in the hookup guide?

They’re actually pretty big images when you open them full size. Soldering definitely needs some work - there are some pins that lokk like they’re not connected, and others that definitely look like they didn’t get hot enough.
The difference between a beginner and a pro is lots of flux 
Make sure you apply flux, and get nice clean contact.

I was able to run it on my computer via Putty. All works well
