This is the wifi antenna I’ve used 2.4GHz 6dBi Antenna with u.FL / IPEX Connector | DFRobot FIT0505 | Core Electronics Australia for the external antenna mod for the pi 0w and I’ve noticed the overall performance of the wireless interface has dropped quite significantly, I more so wanted to know if that’s normal behaviour

Maybe you have to disconnect the built in antenna by cutting sone link when you fit an externall one. You can’t have both connected. Did you do this?

To build on what Bob has said, I have found a video showing how to set this up which may be helpful in tracing your steps. the 2 to 4 minute section of the video shows an install method for an antenna like this. Normally you would be expecting an improvement over the built in antenna using the one you linked so you may want to check your mod for potential issues.
