Has anyone used this for sleep tracking ?

I assume that (like so many products) the specs and description are based on ideal environment … probably a person sitting at their office desk wearing a cotton shirt and at 90 degrees to the sensor. So how well does it do in the real world ?

Does it detect breathing and/or heartbeat under blankets or a quilt ?
Does it detect breathing and/or heartbeat if sleeping on ones side ?

@Donald23173 I’d treat the C1001 sensor as a good prototyping sensor for sleep/presence experiments, not as a medical-grade sleep tracker.

For sleep mode, the useful range is much shorter than the headline 11 m fall-detection range. The specs list sleep detection at around 0.4–2.5 m, and breath/heart-rate detection from the chest at around 0.4–1.5 m. So placement matters a lot, it generally wants a fairly direct view of the torso/chest area.

Blankets or a quilt should not block 60 GHz radar in the same way they would block optical/IR sensing, so breathing motion under bedding is plausible. A thick quilt, electric blanket, lots of folds, a partner/pet in bed, or the sensor looking across the body rather than at the chest could all reduce reliability though.

Side sleeping is the one I’d be more cautious about. It may still pick up breathing movement, but heart-rate extraction is based on much smaller chest motion, so orientation and body position could make that noticeably less consistent.

If you’re testing it, I’d mount it close and aimed at the upper torso, then log the raw reported values over several nights rather than judging it from a short bench test. That should give you a much better feel for whether it’s useful in your specific room/bed setup.
