IDE download error on MAC

Hi

I got a DFRobot beginner kit for my 13th birthday and am having problems downloading the IDEam trying to download the Arduino IDE software to my MAC. I am using the Catalina OS.

The error message is:

“Arduino 2 can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for Malicious software. The Software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information”

Do you have any idea what the problem is?

Kind regards, Clare.

Hi Clare,

The Catalina update has broken a lot of software. It might take a few weeks yet for things to catch up across the board, however, there is a workaround for Arduino until the fix is a part of the official build.

Its now Jun 2020 and the problem still exists

Hi @Laurens59,

A member of the Arduino dev team has since reported this as fixed, Arduino IDE is now a signed application that runs in Catalina.

Chances are you might be using a nightly build of Arduino IDE? If so, they are known to not be signed.

I have tried multiple versions, searched the web and even installed a fix-around all to no avail… If you know of a link you might work I will be very happy to try that too.
Thank you

Hi Lauren,

There’s been an update to the IDE in the last week (now version 1.8.13): https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

If you’re having the same issue as Clare it might be worth trying one of the pre-Catalina versions (e.g. 1.8.9: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/OldSoftwareReleases#previous)
