What else will I need to be up and running to have this pump working and be able to vary the flow rate?

Hi Michael,
You should be able to simply control the speed for this motor with the following items:
You should be able to reduce the voltage with the potentiometer. You may find that it is very sensitive to change though. I would give it a try and see how it goes!

Awesome thank you Steven will I need any alligator clips or anything else to hook up the potentiometer to the DC motor?
Alligator clips might make it easier! You could solder the wires as well. I realize that might be outside of your skill set but its never too late to learn!
