[SOLVED] Reverse camera PCB pinout?

I think you should find an auto electrician. I will not advise on this as I think you could do more damage.

Hey @Ron280737,

Just want to clarify a couple of things to get a clear picture of your issue, and additionally, I would like to advise getting an auto-electrician if you are not comfortable/confident in these sorts of things. You could cause damage to your car, camera, or yourself if you are not careful.

So to clarify:

You had the camera working, but it was mirrored. In an attempt to reverse this you connected the cable “differently” (assuming this means rotated in some way given it is circular), and from that point on it has stopped showing any output on the screen.

Is this correct? If it still doesn’t work when reverted, it has likely been damaged in some way.

Best of luck with that

Yes, that’s the situation. Later researched and found some cameras which have green/white wire outside of the sleeve, which can be cut to mirror the image. But on my model thats not the case

This is probably a model that is designed for the green/white wire to go to a switch that can be installed separately. If your model doesn’t have that wire then it might not even be capable of reversing the image, regardless of how you connect it.

a couple of days ago you posted a picture of what I presume is your monitor/mirror. That has 6 buttons along the bottom, 2 of them clearly have arrows left and right which I believe are navigation buttons for a menu system.

I asked you to state what these buttons are for and/or what they do. You have chosen to ignore that question and instead post a picture of a device which does not appear to have these buttons. if you don’t chose to answer questions made by people who are trying to help you will probably end up getting nowhere.

I believe that by experimenting with that connector orientation you have probably destroyed the camera.

So my suggestion at the moment in the absence of any meaningful information would be to ry to get a replacement camera or throw the lot away and start again. Cut your losses and learn from this experience.

It’s the same camera as in the OP.

If you crack it open, there are three pads for options: F, M, & O. Connect F to + for vertical flip, M to - to stop mirroring, O to - to kill the OSD.

But is it the same model? If the cables are different then there’s obviously some difference in manufacture. That might mean that the model without the wire is not capable of mirroring the image (which will be done in software, not hardware). There is no easy way to tell.

I’m sorry if it looks like ignoring you, thats not the case. Those buttons are for navigation in the settings. They do nothing outside of the settings
I don’t know what’s OP an can’t answer this question.
I’ve found online reviews for some mirrors, where in the settings you can mirror the reverse camera. Just are more expensive from mine, which was 20 eur

Hi Ron

That is what I thought. The same as mine only I have a dedicated monitor instead of the mirror.

I think you might find the “settings” are where you find the option to mirror the video. Also possibly adjust or remove any reversing guide lines you have.
Cheers Bob

PS Just read the last bit.
Apparently you say you have no video mirroring option in the settings.
In that case you are probably stuck with what you get. If it is not how you like it you will have to get a system that is. I don’t think it would be any use just purchasing the mirror part. you probably need the whole system.

I already order a touchscreen version. I hope it have the option. Will post when arrive

Hi Ron
That looks like it has the mirror option. That is if “Reverse Image” means that. I think it should.

Does this include the cameras? Don’t forget your present reverse camera has probably been destroyed by incorrect connector insertion. Don’t do that again will you.

If you plan on using your present cameras you should hope they are compatible. If they are the same make there is some chance they will be.
Good luck.

Everything is included, i will not use mine camera. It’s Chinese model, so no info is supporting mirroring or not. Need to order and test by itself :grinning: The price is 40 eur

The mirror arrived. Test is ~30 minutes and it work. Rear camera shows picture right after connecting to the mirror. No need to attach the red wire to the reverse. No option in the settings to flip the reverse image. Still wondering where to install the rear camera. I prefer on the trunk glass, inside the car. But maybe the image will be bad. Outside is the other option but need to drill holes in my bumper
One question - should i connect the red wire to reverse light wire or not? Currently I’m seeing picture from reverse whatever i want(4 options to split the screen). Half screen front and half screen reverse looks the best option for me. So, i will see picture from reverse all the time. Any concerns about that?
And one negative - the mirror is very dimmed, cannot be used for reverse view without rear camera connected. Cheaper mirrors has glass surface and don’t need power :grinning:

Hi Ron

I don’t know which country you live in or what your vehicle laws are. Here I think if you are driving in a forward direction the rear view MIRROR has to be a MIRROR. NOT a video monitor. I don’t know why you want a forward camera when you are looking out of the front windscreen. I want my Dash Cam to record forward events in the case of some sort of incident. I don’t want to watch it all the time and be a distraction. If your mirror is NOT a mirror when you are driving and you have to turn the camera on to see out the back then I think that would be illegal here and you would not be able to drive the vehicle until this was fixed.
This is the bit that causes concern.

That would definitely NOT be legal here.

Personally my reversing camera has a 7" monitor, All switched by the reversing light signal and my Dash Cam is a recorder. The 2 are entirely separate.

So to summarise. If you insist on paying just a few Euros and purchasing from some obscure Chinese site I am afraid you are stuck with what you get. The old saying hold true, “you get what you pay for”.

I think I advised earlier to do some research and purchase a system that will do all you want. It really is cheaper in the long run. You see you could have 2 systems that don’t do the job and possibly have to be thrown out. This advice still stands and if you do not choose to do this I am out of here.
Or possibly in your country what you have punched is legal. I have no way of knowing as you have not disclosed this bit of information.

I’m a bit ashamed, it was very well glued protection folio. So, the display is like any other display. The options in the settings are full front - small rear, full rear - small front, 50-50 front and rear, only front and only rear. So, i can choose the last one. I don’t know what’s the law about those devices. But didn’t read any complains in the local forums. If it’s mounted but didn’t connected to power, i have visibility behind me

Hi Ron
We have all been fooled by that protector sheet.

I think the way to go here is to arrange for the reversing light circuit to switch the rear camera on. That way it is only on when required and you have a normal mirror at other times. Everyone happy.

Unless you are recording the front camera is not a lot of use except maybe for close parking if you can see the front bumper.

As Bob said we’ve all been fooled by that sheet at some point.

It may be worth looking deeper to see what the rules are in your area. It’s a hefty fine here. I would configure it as if it were just a rearview mirror.

I’ve made a test drive today. This is when the mirror is not connected. Visibility is fine

This is when is connected in reverse mode

I’m sorry for using those ugly cut sticky tapes, just don’t have others in hand. Later will use 3m. Just wanted to see how it looks

I’ve just tried to install it without drilling holes and damaging my heated window. For now, it works very well. Of course, it has negatives - when the sun is begind, you’re barely seeing the image. And I still doesn’t test it on a pavement road

Hi Ron
Looks like you are getting somewhere.

I believe you will still have to arrange it to only come on when the car is in reverse. When the reverse light comes on.
