Taz Heater Bed not Heating Up

My Taz 5 has been working fine, but suddenly the heater bed doesn’t heat up at all. Anybody got any ideas on how I can try and work out whats wrong?

Hi @Gary13476, thanks for bringing your issue to the forums.
Shooting from the hip, it sounds like the heating-element connector has come loose. Try reseating the connector.
While you’re at it and have the connector unplugged, if you have a multimeter it might be a good idea to measure the resistance between the element contacts. We’re looking for a reasonably low resistance - an open circuit is no good.

If a simple re-seat doesn’t do it, Lulzbot support will probably be your best call - they can provide much more comprehensive troubleshooting advice.

Well have to say that’s an eye opener. Seems this is a fairly common issue, the connector that Lulzbot used in this model isn’t rated at high enough amperage and can heat up and cause an issue. That’s what happened to mine. There is a fix, of using different higher capacity connectors, there is a link to the thread on the Lulzbot forum here; https://forum.lulzbot.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=5773&start=10

This is what my connector looked like;

Bummer! I’ve heard of this happening, but it seems to be limited to a handful of people. Perhaps a batch got through the cracks.

I see you’ve just run out of warranty as well in the last few months. Sigh! I’m sure that Lulzbot would be more than happy to help out, but you might be up for the cost of the harness and replacement connector. If they do hit you up for a cost on the harness / connector, then I’ll match it with a store credit. Either way, you’ll be printing in no time.
